The following article explains how to edit your name servers in your computer's network connection properties.

*** NOTE: Manually setting the DNS server information on your PC may override settings that your IT professional have in your Internet router or firewall. It is best to touch bases with them for help with this.***

Name servers (DNS) are a set of servers that map human-readable names (like "estreet.com") to the associated IP addresses out on the internet. Sometimes the name servers in your computer’s connection properties need to be edited to resolve connectivity problems.

Please note: Only E Street internet access customers should use the E Street name servers. If you have a different ISP you should use one of the alternate options listed below (like the Google or OpenDNS name servers) or contact your ISP to obtain their name server information.


To get started, please choose your computer's operating system from the list below:


Windows XP

Windows Vista

Windows 7 & 8

Mac OS X

Windows XP

1. Click the "Start" menu -> "Connect To" -> "Show all connections" (you may also get there by going to "Start-Control Panel" click "Switch to classic view" and "Network Connections").

2. This will open the Network Connections page containing your network connections. Right-click on your connection type (LAN or Wireless network connection) and choose "Properties".

3. This will open the connection Properties window. Click on the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties".

4. This will open the TCP/IP Settings dialogue. Select "Use the following DNS server addresses” and then enter the appropriate name servers from the list below.

Please note: Only E Street internet access customers should use the E Street name servers. If you have a different ISP you should use one of the alternate options listed below or contact your ISP to obtain their name server information.

      E Street name servers:
      Preferred DNS server: 66.17.141.11
      Alternate DNS server: 66.17.141.34


      Google name servers:
      Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
      Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4

      OpenDNS name servers:
      Preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.222
      Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.220

5. After entering the appropriate name servers click "OK" and then "OK" again to save your changes.

Windows Vista

1. Click on the Start menu and select "Control Panel".

2. Click on "Network and Internet" and then click on "Network and Sharing Center".

3. Click on "Manage network connections"
4. Right-click on the network connection that you're actively using and select "Properties". (Hit "Continue" if prompted).

5. On the "Networking" tab, hightlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties"

6. Select "Use the following DNS server addresses” and then enter the appropriate name servers from the list below.

Please note: Only E Street internet access customers should use the E Street name servers. If you have a different ISP you should use one of the alternate options listed below or contact your ISP to obtain their name server information.

      E Street name servers:
      Preferred DNS server: 66.17.141.11
      Alternate DNS server: 66.17.141.34


      Google name servers:
      Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
      Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4

      OpenDNS name servers:
      Preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.222
      Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.220

7. After entering the appropriate name servers click "OK" and then "Close" to save your changes.

Windows 7 & 8

1. Click on the Start menu and select "Control Panel".

2. Under "Network and Internet" click "View network status and tasks" and then click on "Change Adapter Settings" in the left column.

3. Right-click on the network connection that you're actively using and select "Properties". (Hit "Continue" if prompted).

4. Hightlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties"

5. Select "Use the following DNS server addresses” and then enter the appropriate name servers from the list below.

Please note: Only E Street internet access customers should use the E Street name servers. If you have a different ISP you should use one of the alternate options listed below or contact your ISP to obtain their name server information.

      E Street name servers:
      Preferred DNS server: 66.17.141.11
      Alternate DNS server: 66.17.141.34


      Google name servers:
      Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
      Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4

      OpenDNS name servers:
      Preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.222
      Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.220

6. After entering the appropriate name servers click "OK" and then "OK" again to save your changes.

Mac OS X

1. Click on the Apple menu and select "System Preferences".

2. Click on the "Network" icon.

3. Highlight the connection that you're currently using (either "Airport" or "Built-in Ethernet") and then click "Advanced".

4. On the "DNS" tab you'll see a box labeled "DNS servers". Any servers listed in gray text are provided by your ISP and/or router and cannot be edited here. Any name servers that appear in black text can be edited.

5. To add our name servers, click the plus sign "+" and then enter the name server you'd like to add. Hit the plus sign again to add a second name server. Choose the appropriate name servers from the options below.

6. After you're finished editing the name servers click "OK", then "Apply" and then close the "Network" window.
